Digital Scholarship Team Releases Version 1.0 of ODY Library Map
The Digital Scholarship team at St. Lawrence University is excited to announce the Version 1.0 release of a digital map designed to help visitors navigate Owen D. Young Library.
The interactive map, available at https://map.stlawu.edu/ody/, allows users to explore all three levels of ODY Library. By clicking on various locations on the map, users can view photographs and key details about each space. Users can also perform key word searches and browse locations by room type, such as computer labs, group study rooms, or classrooms.
The project team used the Mapplic platform, custom Drupal integrations, isometric graphic design, and hyperlapse video to complete this first iteration of the wayfinding project. The team includes Eric Williams-Bergen, Director of Research and Digital Scholarship, John LaShomb, Web Developer and Systems Administrator, and Nicole Roche, Digital Scholarship Specialist.
The newly released ODY map is an important part of the team’s seven-step plan to create a digital scholarship program at St. Lawrence that supports the Diversity and Inclusion office’s call to challenge habits and assumptions underlying the structures of power, privilege, and injustice, and to ensure that its work is inclusive, welcoming, and empowering. The primary focus of the wayfinding project is to welcome and orient all users to Owen D. Young library, with special attention to making the map—and therefore the physical space—accessible for all users.
The team looks forward to hearing feedback from the SLU community about this Version 1.0 release. (Feedback can be submitted via this webform.) Planned changes include the addition of hyperlapse videos for more library locations, updates to the geometry of the IT offices and other spaces, and more.
