Web Design
Interested in creating your own website?
These resources can get you started.
Whether you’re looking to create a web-based research project, professional portfolio, or personal website, we have options for you.

St. Lawrence University Sites (WordPress)
Students, faculty, and staff can create a customizable web presence for courses, research, or scholarship. Because this is a university-owned site, there are restrictions on what you can publish, and your design options may be limited. However, Sites is free to use, attractive, and ad-free.

Digital Narrative (Drupal)
This is another option available to our students, faculty, and staff. However, design options are even more limited on this platform, and you may not be able to publish your content more widely. Digital narratives are attractive and easy-to-use, however, and can be the ideal choice for beginners looking to make a short, linear web project that does not need to be publically accessible.

WordPress (or Wix, Squarespace, etc.)
Want more design control and independent ownership of your site? Using a content-management system (CMS) like WordPress might be the best option. But you will need to pay a monthly fee plus a domain fee (typically after the first year). Many CMSes offer a free option, but they usually come with ads and limited functionality.
