This site is a digital archive for Twitter & Society, a sociology capstone course at St. Lawrence University taught by Stephen Barnard.
Although the course focuses broadly on Twitter’s sociological significance, it also aims to shed light on some of the most intriguing dynamics through original research. In light of these goals, the class will conduct various analyses of tweets about the ongoing social unrest in response to the killing of an unarmed, black teenager by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
This site will serve two primary functions: first, as a workspace for some of our data, and second, as a showcase for the analyses we conduct and results we arrive at. There is a lot to look forward to, so stay tuned.
