North Country Resource was a collection of resources that were the product of a sociology class at St. Lawrence University with an emphasis on community-based learning. The course, taught by Dr. Stephen Barnard, was titled Social Justice in the Digital Age and includes active engagement at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility (SLCCF).
With the shared goal of assisting the transition from incarceration to community integration, North Country Resource was the product of a collaboration between the students and faculty in the CBL group as well as incarcerated individuals and program officers from SLCCF. The site was designed to provide a directory of resources that may assist formerly incarcerated individuals with successful reintegration into the community with the help of available resources. It may also be helpful for others interested in public assistance programs available in the area of Northern New York that we affectionately call the “North Country.”
