Jeff Maynes is an Associate Professor of Philosophy, and Director of the St. Lawrence Center for Innovation in Teaching and Assessment. One of his research interests is the nature of linguistic knowledge, including how that knowledge might be implemented in AI systems. In particular, he explores ways in which different AI architectures do, and do not, provide insight into human language comprehension.
He teaches a course on The Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, which explores the nature of computation, both in machines and minds, what it means for a computer program to think, and the ethical implementation of AI systems.
