Brook Henkel holds a Ph.D. in Germanic Languages from Columbia University and taught at Haverford College before joining St. Lawrence University in 2016. His research interests include German film, early and avant-garde cinema, literary modernism, media theory and history, and interrelations between science, literature, and visual culture. His peer-reviewed articles have appeared in New German Critique, Seminar: A Journal of Germanic Studies, and several edited volumes. At St. Lawrence, Henkel teaches all levels of German language and Film Studies courses (in English) on New German Cinema, European Cinema, Science & Cinema, and topics in the theory and history of film and media. He is currently co-chair of the new Digital Media & Film Department and is directing St. Lawrence’s off-campus program in New York City during the 2022-23 academic year.
