Biography

Dr. Jessica Sierk earned her Ph.D. in Educational Studies with an emphasis in Social Analysis, Educational Policy and Reform from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, her Master's in Secondary Education with an English as a Second Language specialization from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and her Bachelor's in Secondary Education with a specialization in Mathematics. 

She is a former high school mathematics teacher who has taught in both Nebraska and Texas. She currently teaches Contemporary Issues in American Education (every semester), Teaching in a Differentiated Classroom (Fall only), Teaching and the Context(s) of Learning (Spring only), Critical Whiteness Studies in Education (every other Fall on odd years), and Urban and Rural Education (every other Spring on even years). Dr. Sierk's research focuses on the sociopolitical context of education, specifically as it relates to race and whiteness. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, yoga, live music, good food, and traveling!
